Intermittent Fasting

This time of year, people are seeking fixes for weight loss. In fact, we receive numerous questions regarding what and how to do it. One question I tend to get asked A LOT is about intermittent fasting. What is it? Why should I do it?

I.F. is when someone does not eat for a period of time. The most common I.F. is when someone fasts for 16 hrs and eats for 8 hrs. The key to this method is to eat healthy foods and NOT Snickers and Twinkies. Do they even make Twinkies any more? Some people can’t go an entire 16 hrs without eating. For these people, another method is to limit the caloric intake to 500-600 calories 2-3 times a week. Just have some light snacks throughout the day and you should be good! Yet another method is to not eat for an entire 24 hr period.

A lot of people will fast solely for the weight aspect while others are doing it to keep their bodies healthy. Both are right! Fasting limits your calories therefore your weight will also follow.

There are multiple scientific reasons why one should fast. Your HGH will increase, your insulin sensitivity will increase, cells repair better and your immune system is boosted. Those all sound pretty good, right?!
